Ombudsman PLUS is an alternative education program for at-risk middle
and high school students who have challenging educational and
behavioral needs that may keep them from being successful in a
traditional classroom setting, but who can succeed if their needs are
addressed appropriately in a supportive environment.
enables students to recognize their ability to learn, and celebrates
and builds on their successes. These values transform students' outlook
on learning, while helping them develop self-esteem and envision
opportunities for the future.
We work with our district partners to develop a customized program
created to serve students in the least restrictive environment (LRE),
and we collaborate with the district on all aspects of the program to
ensure that students are supported and their needs are met.
Ombudsman students benefit from computer-assisted instruction and
teacher-led instruction in small and large groups. They follow a
customized academic program aligned to state standards and created to
meet their specific needs, with the goal of transitioning back to their
home district. This comprehensive program provides the academic,
emotional and behavioral support students need to be successful in the
classroom and in life after high school.
Ombudsman PLUS utilizes Dr. William Glasser’s Choice Theory and Reality
Therapy techniques as well as the evidence-based Positive Behavior
Intervention and Supports (PBIS) framework to help students improve
their behaviors and academic outcomes. Students also receive social work
and transition support and participate in social skills development
groups to help them learn appropriate alternative behaviors.
The Ombudsman PLUS program is aligned to state standards and accredited
by AdvancEd. To earn this accreditation, Ombudsman PLUS meets rigorous
AdvancEd standards, engages in continuous improvement and demonstrates
quality assurance through internal and external review. AdvancED
accreditation is recognized internationally as a distinctive mark of
Ombudsman PLUS is also accredited by the unified
organization of the North Central Association Commission on
Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI) and the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School
Improvement (SACS CASI)
