Erik Gordon, Ombudsman Instructor
I get to work with students who really need my help.
Erik Gordon
I’ve always had a passion for teaching, even as I earned master’s in Business Administration. I have experience teaching high school and college students in different environments, but Ombudsman has been a better fit for me mentally and emotionally.

Every day, I get to work with students who really need my help. Our students struggle in a traditional school setting. But as soon as they experience success in Ombudsman’s alternative program, their passion for learning ignites. The freedom to set their own schedule makes them feel responsible for their actions. That sense of responsibility improves their self-esteem and self-control.

I love to guide that self-esteem and passion for learning into a whole new direction. My students consider their futures for the first time. I’ve witnessed that transformation firsthand several times. One particular student came into the program thinking he would finish his required time and then immediately return to his old gang life. After some time with me, he decided that college was where “life” was really at.

All of my students are good kids. They have just made some bad choices or been the victim of their own circumstances. I help them reclaim control of their situations and take responsibility over their actions, so everyone else can know how great they really are.
